The Student Perspective
Hear from five UOW student's about their experiences at the University of Wollongong and around the region.
Visit the Ask A Student page to contact UOW Students and hear their thoughts on life while at UOW!
“The high reputation of UOW attracted me to come here. I can make good use of my English here, studying in Australia, as opposed to Hong Kong. Both of my parents think it is better to live in an English-speaking environment in order to improve my language skills, and Australia is one of my parents' favourite countries. Wollongong isn't as crowded as Sydney, and I have many opportunities to speak in English.”

“I chose not to study in Hong Kong as I wouldn't have many opportunities to speak and practice my English. The students here come from different countries, and most are friendly and easy to talk to, so I have a chance to understand more about other countries' cultures through conversation. Wollongong is a beautiful area where I can experience local people's culture; I don't want to study university in a big city. I enjoy the environment here—the beach, the nice weather— and it's still easy to get to Sydney. Here, I can have the best of both worlds.”

“I transferred to UOW after my first year of study, after a visit to Wollongong and look around the University. Although I enjoyed studying at the previous institutions, I immediately knew that UOW had everything I was looking for in a university: a reputation for innovative and high-quality teaching; a multi-cultural environment; excellent facilities; lush and green surroundings; proximity to both the beach and city centre; and, most importantly, a vibrant and intimate 'feel'.
I often go to the Uni gym (URAC) during my breaks, since it offers fun group exercise classes such as Pilates. Lately, I've also joined the UOW dancing club, as there is nothing better than a little dancing in between studying! There are a variety of services and facilities available on-campus, such as workshops, student development programs, and clubs and societies. The clubs and societies make it easier to meet new people.”

“I love the UOW natural environment and its diversity. I have many friends from all over the world—Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, Mexico, France, and more. I have enjoyed going out to the beach and tried many different cuisines in Wollongong. I really have a great time living and studying here, so come and experience it with UOW!”

“I completed my BBA from Chulalongkorn University. I am interested in marketing however understand from my experience that it is important for marketing executives to develop their managerial skills as well. The combined Masters program in marketing and management is therefore perfectly suited to my needs and career preferences. I have to work hard to achieve my high ambitions; however I am lucky because Wollongong is located in one of the best places in Australia, with good weather and a great campus environment.”
