Council Committee of Appeal (Student Matters)
Membership
The Committee of Appeal shall consist of:
- An external member of Council (as Chair for a two year period);
- the two academic staff members of Council (or, where they are not available, two representatives from the academic staff nominated by the Vice-Chancellor in consultation with the Chair of Academic Senate);
- a student member of Council (or, if not available, a student representative nominated by the Vice-Chancellor after consultation with the student member of Council).
The Committee of Appeal shall normally be convened by Council but may be convened by the Administrative Committee outside Council meetings or, when required by timing issues, by the Vice-Chancellor in accordance with the membership provisions.
Members of the Committee of Appeal shall not be members of the appellant's Faculty.

Participation by Gender: The Vice-Chancellor will ensure that, wherever possible, both genders are represented on the Committee of Appeal

Quorum
The quorum for a meeting of the Council Committee of Appeal (Student Matters) shall be two thirds of the current membership.
Terms of Reference
The Committee of Appeal shall hear appeals from students on decisions taken by University officer(s) with regard to the application of University Rules and Procedures, other than appeals against disciplinary decisions (considered by the Council Committee of Appeal – Student Discipline).
The Committee shall have power to determine whether the decision taken by the University officer(s) duly applied the approved University Rules and Procedures.
The Committee is not empowered to decide the academic merits of a student's appeal.
