Universities Admission Centre
All undergraduates, including those not in Year 12 or not undertaking the HSC, apply for university through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).
The Universities Admission Index (UAI) is a ranking of all Year 12 students completing the HSC in a particular year.
Applicants who do not complete the NSW HSC (or equivalent) will gain a UAI ranking based on other information.
The UAI ranking positions each student against all other qualifying students based on their overall performance.
Each university has a minimum UAI requirement for admission into each of its courses. The UAI cut-off for a particular course at a particular university reflects demand for the course, not the quality or difficulty of the course, so the same course could have a different cut-off at a different university.
UOW’s cut-offs OR Research cut-offs.
Each UAI ranking is a number between 0.00 and 100.00 (in increments of 0.05). It is calculated by universities and released by the UAC.
Other criteria such as a portfolio, interview or audition may also be taken into account for certain degrees, in conjunction with the UAI ranking (or equivalent).
UAIs can be boosted through Points to UOW, Bonus Points and special access programs.
