Accommodation

When you have read and understood your Offer of Admission letter, you need to accept your offer and pay the tuition fees.

You will then need to apply for a student visa and ensure you meet the application closing date for accommodation, more information found below. Alternatively, you can defer your offer.

Temporary Accommodation

Temporary accommodation is available for students who do not have a place to stay when they first arrive in Wollongong.  It can be booked through UOW Accommodation Services before your arrival in Australia, at the same time as you book your airport pick-up, using the Airport Pick-up Request Form.

Longer-term Accommodation

One of the most important decisions to make is where you will live during your studies in Wollongong. The University of Wollongong (UOW) has a variety of accommodation options:

Living @ UOW

Live in University managed residences that are flexi catered, fully catered or self catered. All are located close to the campus and within a short walk, bus or train ride to the city centre.  A number of residences are specifically for postgraduate students or have allocated postgraduate areas. See the University Residences website for more information, video tours of each Residence's facilities and instructions on how and when to apply.

An application fee applies.

Homestay

Live with a local family, arranged through Australian Family Homestays.

Women's College Wollongong

This is an all-female boarding house style, fully catered, and may suit the needs of some international female students. It is managed independently from the University; visit the Women's College Wollongong website for further information.

Private rental

You should arrive in Wollongong at least six weeks before the start of the session to arrange private accommodation.

There are two styles of private rental properties: shared and single.  Occupants of shared accommodation usually divide household expenses such as telephone and electricity.

Approximate weekly rent:

  • Unfurnished room: $120-170
  • Furnished room: $135-$210
  • Unfurnished apartment: $200-$350
  • Unfurnished house: $300-$450

See Rental Information on the Housing Services website for further information, including a database of available properties.

Important Information:

Housing Services recommends that new students look for rental accommodation after they arrive in Wollongong.  Please read Housing Services' important New Student Information about private accommodation.
