Cut-Offs
For 2012 Year 12 applicants, UOW has released the cut-off required for selection into each course. These cut-offs are shown in the course codes key. Cut-offs are expressed as a rank, with most Year 12 applicants ranked according to their Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). All courses are Commonwealth supported place (CSP) courses.
Some 2012 Year 12 applicants may receive an offer to a course even though they have an ATAR below the cut-off published for the course. In such cases, UOW has used other selection criteria in addition to or instead of the ATAR, for example by awarding bonus points. The cut-offs include bonus points so that each cut-off listed is the lowest rank (including any bonus points) required for entry into each course.
For non-current Year 12 applicants, the cut-offs do not generally apply. Institutions may take any or all of the following into account when considering applications – tertiary studies, secondary studies, post-secondary studies, and other relevant factors such special circumstances.
If N/A appears instead of a cut-off, a cut-off is not applicable because selection criteria other than or in addition to the ATAR are used, or the course is not offered to 2012 Year 12 applicants.
Vacancies
A letter ‘V’ shown in brackets after the cut-off indicates that some places may be available in the next offer round, the Late Round. Vacancies could also arise in some courses not marked ‘V’. This will not be known until after acceptances to Main Round offers have been received and no guarantee is given that further offers will be made. If you applied for a course marked with a ‘V’ and you were not made an offer, your qualifications may not have been sufficient to gain entry into the course in this round.
Do not rely on receiving an offer in the Late Round. UOW will make offers in the Late Round only if courses have vacancies after the Main Round. If you have received a Main Round offer, you are advised to accept that offer. Even if you accept an earlier offer, you can still receive another offer in a later round. If you prefer the later offer, you can then accept that offer and withdraw from the earlier offer.
Changing preferences for the Late Round
The next offer round is the Late Round. You can change your preferences for the Late Round on UAC’s website until midnight (Sydney Eastern Daylight Time) on Wednesday 23 January 2013. You can change the preferences you had for the Main Round, or add new preferences, or a combination of both. If you do not change your preferences, higher preferences than the course you have been offered in the Main Round are automatically considered in the Late Round. Remember that institutions make fewer offers in the Late Round, and may not make offers to all courses.
The cut-off for a course in the Late Round could be greater than, equal to or less than the cut-off in the Main Round, depending on the number of places available after acceptances of Main Round offers.
Some courses had early closing dates. Avoid wasting a preference by checking Table 1 and Part 2 of the UAC 2013 Guide or the course descriptions on UAC’s website. If vacancies have been advertised in courses with early closing dates, you must contact the institution for application procedures.
Late Round offers will be released on UAC’s website at 9pm (Sydney Eastern Daylight Time) on Wednesday 30 January 2013.
