Wollongong Australian Football Club Sporting Scholarships

The Wollongong Australian Football Club plays in the highly competitive AFL Sydney Premier League. Their scholarships encourage talented AFL players to pursue their passion for AFL while studying at UOW.

Value: $2,500 (including a $2,000 cash component and $500 in in-kind support) for 1 year only

Criteria:

Applicants for the Wollongong Australian Football Club Scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must enrol full-time in any year of any undergraduate degree at the Wollongong Campus of the University of Wollongong.
  • Applicants must be dedicated AFL players with representative honours at State or Regional level or be players with first grade experience in an accomplished AFL competition.
  • Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia.
Additional Criteria:

Interested students will be required to provide the following information in support of their application:

  • A brief covering letter and resume
  • A copy of your HSC results and/or academic transcript/s from previous studies
  • An overview of your sporting involvement, with an emphasis on AFL experience and capabilities
  • Two referees to provide details of your AFL experience and capabilities
  • A one page outline of how the scholarship will assist you in your sporting and academic ambitions
Conditions: Students can re-apply for the scholarship for subsequent years. Students will be required to maintain a credit average in their studies.


National Australia Bank Sports Scholarships

National Australia Bank is an international financial services group with a commitment to giving back to the community. NAB provides scholarships for UOW sports men and women to help them meet the costs associated with high-level competition. This scholarship is for commencing and continuing students.

Value: up to $3,000 for 1 year.
Number: Varies
Criteria: Outstanding ability in a particular sport. Recipients are expected to become an active member of a University sports club.
Additional Criteria:

Applicants must also provide written responses to the following questions:

  • Indicate the sporting club/s you may wish to join
  • Please provide a brief (1 - 2 pages) sporting CV listing your achievements in point form - starting with the most recent
  • Please provide a one page listing of your Regional, State, or National representation - starting with your most recent
  • Please outline what you can contribute to sport on campus
  • Attach nominal sporting programs i.e., State Championships, Coaching Camps, etc
  • Please provide the contact details of two people who can vouch for your sporting achievements
Conditions: Continuation of the scholarship may be considered for subsequent years if standards of sporting and academic excellence are maintained.
