Scholarships for Accommodation of Prospective Students

Commonwealth Accomodation Scholarships

Value: The value of each scholarship is $4,324 per year (2008 rate) for a maximum of 4 years.
Number: Varies
Criteria:

 The scholarship is for Australian citizens (or those who hold an Australian humanitarian visa) and are undertaking an undergraduate course of study as Commonwealth Supported students at the University of Wollongong.

To be eligible:

  • Applicants must be Australian citizens or hold an Australian humanitarian visa and be undertaking an undergraduate course of study as Commonwealth Supported students at the University of Wollongong.
  • They must meet the low socio-economic background criteria and be enrolled as full-time students, unless there are exceptional circumstances that prevent them student from studying full-time.
  • Applicants must have also attended school and/or lived in rural and regional Australia for an extended period and have moved away from that area to undertake higher education as an internal student.

  • Applications are via the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC), not UOW.

General Residential Scholarships

The scholarships provide residential financial assistance to students with identified need.

Value: $8,000 for 1 year
Number: 11
Criteria:

Selection is on the basis of:

  • recent academic records
  • potential for contribution to the residential community
  • demonstrated need such as social or financial need.

Applicants will be required to complete a questionnaire on social and/or financial disadvantage. This questionnaire will be mailed to applicants after the closing date for scholarship applications.

Gus Parish (Residential) Scholarship

No application is necessary. This scholarship is awarded on the recommendation of the Head of International House.

Value: $500 for 1 year
Number: 4
Criteria:

Selection is based on:

  • outstanding academic achievement based on results in the NSW HSC or equivalent
  • potential for contribution to the residential community.
  • being accepted as a resident of International House.

The Residents Association - Weerona College Residential Scholarship

The scholarship will be advertised on College noticeboards in the first term of 2008, and is awarded on the recommendation of the Head of Weerona College.

Value: $1,000 for 1 year
Number: 1
Criteria:
  • Recipients must be accepted as a resident of Weerona College.
  • Satisfactory academic achievement in the NSW HSC or equivalent is required.
  • Applicants will be asked to forward a resume and a 300-word essay titled, 'Weerona College will be just like home or will it?'.

Weerona College Regional Residential Scholarships

Value: The scholarship covers the cost of the students 1st year of accommodation. It is valued at up to $7,500 for one year.
Number: 1
Criteria:
  • The scholarship is awarded to a student commencing study who resides in, and attended high school in the Southern Highlands.
  • Selection is based on demonstrated financial or other needs.
