Honours Offer Acceptance and Enrolment
Congratulations
Congratulations on your offer to study Honours at UOW. The following information will help you understand the Honours enrolment process.
This information is only relevant to:
- New commencing students enrolling in an Honours degree
- Currently enrolled UOW students where the Honours component is separate to their existing Bachelor degree, for example:
- Bachelor of Science - course code 742 (3 year program)
- Honours degree - course code 741 (1 year program)
Please note: If your Honours year forms part of your existing bachelor degree program, for example, Bachelor of Biotechnology Advanced (744A) then this information is not relevant to you. You must enrol into your Honours subject via SOLS or by submitting an Academic Approval Form
Important
If you are a currently enrolled UOW student and you have been issued with an Offer of Admission to an Honours degree program for the purpose of your enrolment into your Honours degree, you must enrol as a new student through the new student enrolment process (detailed below) and not via Enrolment Variations in SOLS.

Step 1: Clearing a Condition
You should check your Offer of Admission letter for information regarding any conditions that may need to be cleared prior to your enrolment. Please note that all conditions must be cleared to enable you to enrol. Information about a condition, if applicable, will be quoted under the sub-heading "Conditions" in your Offer of Admission. Step 2: Selection of Subjects
Prior to enrolling you should discuss your program of study with your Honours Co-ordinator. Detailed subject information is also available in the Course Handbook and Subject Timetables
Once you have made your selection, you will be able to enrol in your subjects via SOLS (see below for instructions on how to enrol on-line).
Step 3: Payment of Fees
Domestic Students
Commonwealth supported students are required to pay a student contribution towards the cost of their course. See the Fees & Assistance pages for additional information.
International Students
If you are an international student you must pay the fee stated in your Offer of Admission and clear conditions, if any, before you can obtain your COE (Step 4). Payment may be made by credit card or bank cheque/draft in Australian dollars and should be made as early as possible to allow time for visa processing.
Step 4: Obtaining your Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) - for International Students Only
You must have a COE for the course in which you intend to enrol. After you have paid your tuition fees and cleared conditions, if any, complete Attachment A of your Offer of Admission and return with your payment to UniAdvice. After your COE has been issued you will be able to proceed to Step 5.
Step 5: Internet Enrolment Process: How to Enrol - Honours Students
If you do not have access to the Internet, experience difficulty accessing the online enrolment system or would like further information regarding the enrolment process, please contact Student Central.
- Go to www.uow.edu.au/student/sols/ and click on 'NEW STUDENTS - ENROL HERE' (in the blue shaded box) and then click on 'Enrol Now';
- Enter your student number (printed on your Offer of Admission) and your date of birth and click 'submit';
- Read through the Privacy information and, if you agree to the terms, click 'consent' (if you do not consent then you will not be permitted to enrol);
- Click on 'New Enrolments';
- Check that your address is correctly recorded. We also highly recommend that you provide us with the details of someone we can contact on your behalf in the case of an emergency (click on 'maintain' next to 'Related Contact Details'). If you wish to change either your home or session address click on 'maintain home' or 'maintain session', make the necessary changes and then click 'submit'. Make sure your mailing address is set to either home or session, depending upon which is your local address. Once your contact details are correct click 'continue';
- Domestic Students Only: Eligible Commonwealth Supported students can apply for HECS-HELP, a government loan program, which assists students with their tuition fees. For information on HECS-HELP, click here for an abstract, or here for the full online booklet.
If you are a Commonwealth Supported student and wish to make a full up-front payment of your student contribution amount you must select 'full up-front payment of your student contribution amount' on the Request for Commonwealth Support screen.
If you are a Commonwealth Supported student and wish to defer payment of some or all of your student contribution amount you must select 'obtain a HECS-HELP loan for ALL or PART of my student contribution amount' on the Request for Commonwealth Support screen. - Choose 'Yes' or 'No' for membership to the UniCentre and URAC and click 'continue';
- To enrol into your subjects:
- Enter the relevant subject code in the 'new subject code' box and click 'add subject';
- Choose the appropriate campus and session (e.g Autumn, Spring or Summer) and click on 'Enrol selected subject instance';
- Repeat this process for all of your subject codes
If you are not sure which subjects to choose or what your program of study should be, contact your Faculty or Academic Unit.
- Complete the online Statistical survey;
- Print the final page as it gives you your username and password to log onto SOLS (Student Online Services).
- Once your SOLS account has been activated (usually overnight) you should log onto SOLS to view your fees statement;
- Congratulations, you have now completed your Honours enrolment process.
Step 6: Checking your Fee Statement on SOLS
Domestic Students
Important: 24 hours after enrolling, log onto SOLS and select the 'Fee Statement' option to check your outstanding fee balance and due date.
Commonwealth Supported students making an upfront payment of their student contribution amount must check their fee statement on SOLS (link to SOLS) (available one day after enrolment) to find out the fee amount owing and the due date. Please note, fees may change with variation to enrolment and payments are due by the relevant census date .

Other Enrolment information
When can I enrol?
Provided you have a valid offer and have cleared your conditions (and have obtained a COE if you are an international student) you can proceed to the internet enrolment process. Enrolments for 2008 open on 26 November 2007. Please refer to the Key Dates for session dates and the last date to enrol.
Activate Your Student Email Account
All students of the University are issued with a student email account. To activate your email account you need to log on to SOLS. Enter the SOLS main menu then select 'Create Unix/e-mail Account'. If you have previously attended the University of Wollongong your username will be the same as before.
Important: 24hrs after enrolling log onto SOLS and select the 'Fee Statement' option to check your outstanding fee balance and due date.
Deferment of studies
If you wish to defer your offer please do not enrol in your course at this time.
To access the online deferment application, simply go to http://coursefinder.uow.edu.au/deferralrequest. Once you have lodged your request you will receive an automated reply confirming the receipt of your deferment application.
If you don't have access to the internet you should send a written request to UniAdvice, University of Wollongong, NSW 2522 and enclose a copy of your Offer of Admission. Notification that your deferment has been granted will be emailed to you.

Student ID card
As an Honours student your borrowing rights at the library will be different to a non-Honours student. You will therefore need to arrange for an updated student ID card to be issued to you. This card becomes your new library and student identification card. You will need to visit Student Central, located on the ground floor of Building 17, to be issued with your new card. Student Central is open between 9:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday.
