NMR Equipment

The Faculty is currently equipped with three NMR Spectrometers:

Bruker’s Ascend 400-MHz NMR Spectrometer

Main configuration:

  • Bruker 400-MHz super-shielded super conductor magnet
  • Bruker Avance III HD Console
  • Bruker dual broad-band BBO 400-MHz 5-mm probe with z-gradient and variable temperature control
  • Excellent spectral resolution (linewidth < 0.4 Hz);
  • Excellent sensitivity (s/n > 380)
  • SampleXpress automatic sample changer for 60 samples
  • Bruker TopSpin 3.7 operating software for NMR data collection and processing

Bruker Avance Neo 500-MHz NMR Spectrometer

Main configuration:

  • Varian 500-MHz, 54-mm bore, super-shielded super conductor magnet
  • Bruker’s Avance Neo 500-MHz console
  • 5-mm, 31P-15N/1H-19F prodigy N2 Cryoprobe with ATM, Z-gradient, control system, and 100-L LN2 dewar on balance
  • Super spectral resolution (linewidth < 0.4 Hz);
  • Super sensitivity (s/n > 1400)
  • CP/MAS accessory including MAS controller, 4-mm 31P-15N/1H MAS probe, and insert tube for solid state NMR
  • SampleXpress automatic sample changer for 60 samples
  • BCU II Gas Preconditioner
  • N2 separator
  • Bruker TopSpin 4.0 operating software for NMR data collection and processing

VNMRS 500-MHz NMR Spectrometer

Main configuration:

  • Oxford 500-MHz super conductor magnet
  • Varian triple-channel console with a triple-axis pulsed-field gradient module, a waveform generator and a 34-channel shim module
  • FTS variable temperature preconditioner and stabiliser with 0.05o precision from -40o to +60o;
  • 5mm 1H / 13C / 15N triple-nucleus triple-gradient probe
  • 4mm 1H / 13C indirect-detection z-gradient nano probe, which uses ~40 micro-litre of sample
  • 8mm DOTY broadband diffusion probe
  • 10-mm diffusion probe
  • Moderate spectral resolution
  • Vnmrj 4.1 operating software for NMR data collection and processing

The NMR facility is primarily used by the research students and staff studying Chemistry. NMR services for external researchers can also be provided (reasonable charges apply).

We also have access to:             

  • Bruker 600 NMR spectrometer at UNSW
  • Bruker 800 MHz spectrometer at ANU
