One of the most important decisions to make is where you will live during your studies in Wollongong. The University of Wollongong (UOW) has a variety of accommodation options:

UOW offers several housing options through the UOW Living accommodation service.
Live in University managed residences that are flexi-catered, fully catered and self catered. All are located close to the campus and within a short walk, bus or train ride to the city centre.

Homestay: Live with a local family, arranged through Australian Family Homestays.
Private rental: There are two styles of private rental properties: shared and single.
Occupants of shared accommodation usually divide household expenses such as telephone and electricity. UOW Accommodation Services can help students seeking private accommodation, and holds a database of properties. The Housing Officer (housing-officer@uow.edu.au) can assist with enquiries about private rental accommodation in Wollongong. It is strongly recommended that you read the information provided on the Accommodation Services website or talk to the Housing Officer before renting or sharing accommodation.
Approximate weekly rent:
- Unfurnished room: $120-170
- Furnished room: $135-$210
- Unfurnished apartment: $200-$350
- Unfurnished house: $300-$450s
Notes:
You should arrive in Wollongong at least six weeks before the start of the session to arrange private accommodation. Temporary accommodation can be booked at the same time as your airport pick-up, before your arrival in Australia.
It is also important you are aware of the basic rights and responsibilities of tenants before you agree to rent a property. The Office of Fair Trading Renting Guide contains this information.
You will most likely need to apply for university accommodation before you arrive in Australia as applications close two months before the session commences:
Autumn Session (February): 30 November
Spring Session (July): 1 May
An application fee of $60 for new students and $40 for returning students applies. Applications submitted without this fee will not be considered.
The Accommodation Services Office will notify you of the outcome of your application by email. If you are offered a place in one of the residences, please read through the contract information sent to you as this will explain costs, conditions and any special requirements.
