University Regulatory Status

The University of Wollongong is a public university established by the New South Wales law through the University of Wollongong Act 1989. The University is registered by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA), the national regulator for higher education, as an Australian University. The University’s registration status with TEQSA is detailed on the National Register of Higher Education Providers.

As a public entity established in the state of New South Wales, the University is required to publish an Annual Report each year. Information on the current financial standing of the University can be found in the ‘Financial Statements’ section of the current Annual Report.

Under section 45 of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011, as a registered Australian university, the University of Wollongong is authorised to self-accredit its higher education courses. All higher education courses listed in the Course Handbook are accredited by the University in accordance with its published course approval policies and procedures. The governing body of the University, the Council of the University of Wollongong, has delegated to the Academic Senate the authority to accredit courses. The Academic Senate is the peak academic body of the University.

The University is registered to provide higher education to overseas students by TEQSA. As required under section 14A of the Education Services for Overseas Student Act 2000, all University of Wollongong courses approved for delivery to overseas students are listed on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). The University’s CRICOS provider number is 00102E.
