Robert Ryan

Deputy Chancellor

Robert Ryan was appointed to the University Council by the NSW Minister for Education and Training in January 2010. Mr Ryan completed his Bachelor of Economics at the University of Sydney in 1984 and Master of Commercial Law at Macquarie University in 1996. He holds the following professional qualifications:

  • Associate of the Institute of Company Directors
  • Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants
  • Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries
  • Fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia

Robert Ryan is currently the Chief Executive of IMB Ltd, a Wollongong based mutual bank. Prior to his appointment as CEO, he held the positions of Deputy Chief Executive, Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary of IMB. Robert is a director of IMB Financial Planning Limited, Australian Settlements Limited, the Illawarra Regional Information Service Ltd and The Flagstaff Group. Prior to joining IMB, Robert held the positions of Managing Director, Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary at Australian Resources Limited.

Robert has extensive experience in finance and management at senior executive and Board level, has been involved in the formulation and implementation of strategic business plans and financial restructuring, staff management and development, treasury funding and risk management, as well as evaluation of acquisitions and divestments.

At the December 2021 Council meeting, the University Council re-elected Robert to the position of Deputy Chancellor commencing 1 January 2022.

Robert resides in the Sutherland Shire and is married with three children.
