Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC)

Terms of Reference

The Environmental Advisory Committee is advisory to the Vice-Chancellor and will oversee the development and implementation of UOW’s environmental management program. The aim of UOW’s environmental management program is to integrate environmental responsibility into all aspects of the University's activities and to minimise UOW’s environmental footprint.

The Committee shall:

1. monitor, review and recommend environmental strategies, plans and projects in the areas of:

  • energy use
  • alternative energy sources
  • campus management
  • research
  • teaching
  • compliance/reporting
  • community engagement
  • communication
  • staff and student education and awareness
  • and other relevant environmental areas

2. monitor UOW’s environmental performance and make recommendations;
3. monitor UOW’s environmental budget and recommend funding priorities;
4. ensure procedures are in place to identify and meet UOW’s environmental legislative requirements;
5. oversee the development of UOW’s environmental management system;
6. report to the Vice-Chancellor and the University on UOW’s environmental performance;
7. develop the University as a demonstrator of environmental best practice and as a community laboratory.
8. promote environmental sustainability at the University.

Membership

The Environmental Advisory Committee shall consist of:

  •  The Chair will be determined by the Vice-Chancellor. The Chair may co-opt additional members as the need arises. This will depend on the nature of key projects being reviewed or considered by the EAC. 
  • 1 Executive Dean or Associate Dean or their nominated proxy (appointed by the Vice-Chancellor)
  • Chief Administrative Officer
  • Director, Facilities Management Division
  • 1 Head of School, Head of Unit, or Head of Research Strength/Centre/Entity or their nominated proxy (appointed by the Vice-Chancellor)
  • Environmental Services Manager 
  • 1 Academic Staff representative (appointed by the Vice-Chancellor)
  • 1 Professional Services Staff representative (appointed by the Vice-Chancellor)
  • 1 Undergraduate Student member (appointed by the Vice-Chancellor)
  • 1 Postgraduate Student member (appointed by the Vice-Chancellor)

 Unless otherwise provided, the term of office for all appointed members will be two years. 
Ex-officio invitees include:

  • Environmental Management staff, as required
  • iC representative

Unless otherwise provided, the term of office of all appointed members shall be two years.  Committee members wanting to take leave of absence during their term should seek the approval of the Committee.  Any short term membership replacements will be a matter for the Chair and the Committee to determine.
