Terms of Reference

The Environmental Advisory Committee is advisory to the Vice-Chancellor and will oversee the development and implementation of UOW’s environmental management program. The aim of UOW’s environmental management program is to integrate environmental responsibility into all aspects of the University's activities and to minimise UOW’s environmental footprint.

The Committee will;

1. monitor, review and recommend environmental strategies, plans and projects in the areas of;

  • energy use
  • alternative energy sources
  • campus management
  • research
  • teaching
  • compliance/reporting
  • community engagement
  • communication
  • staff and student education and awareness
  • and other relevant environmental areas

2. monitor UOW’s environmental performance and make recommendations;
3. monitor UOW’s environmental budget and recommend funding priorities;
4. ensure procedures are in place to identify and meet UOW’s environmental legislative requirements;
5. oversee the development of UOW’s environmental management system;
6. report to the Vice-Chancellor and the University on UOW’s environmental performance;
7. develop the University as a demonstrator of environmental best practice and as a community laboratory.

Membership

The Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) will consist of the following members:

  • Vice-Principal (Administration);
  • 1 Dean (appointed by the Vice-Chancellor);
  • Director, Buildings and Grounds;
  • 1 Head of School (appointed by the Vice-Chancellor);
  • Environmental Manager
  • 1 Academic Staff member (appointed by the Vice-Chancellor);
  • 1 General Staff member (appointed by the Vice-Chancellor);
  • 1 Student member (appointed by the Vice-Chancellor)
  • The Chair will be determined by the Vice-Chancellor. The Chair may co-opt additional members as the need arises. This will depend on the nature of key projects being reviewed or considered by the EAC.

Unless otherwise provided, the term of office for all appointed members will be two years.

The quorum for a meeting will be 5 of the 9 members.

The Committee will meet bi-monthly The meeting dates for 2009 are:

  • 1 June 2009
  • August 2009
  • October 2009
  • December 2009
