The second STEM Teacher Conference at the University of Wollongong
Saturday, 6 August 2016
9am - 3.30pm | McKinnon Building (Building 67)

The theme of this conference is 'Cross Pollinating the Curriculum’ and is for practising STEM discipline secondary teachers. The conference provides delegates with practical ideas for the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines at high schools (e.g. using science in a mathematics class, using mathematics in an engineering class).

What an inspirational day!!
Starting out with an amazing address by Dr Karl Kruszelnicki, 165 delegates were all inspired to look to the future and the wonders STEM disciplines can lead to. Teachers from middle primary to secondary school were then presented with ideas on bringing all the KLAs into science classes and taking a holistic approach to STEM at school. Presentations on "tried and tested" programs that integrate STEM in high schools followed, in parallel with presentations on how to establish a network between primary schools and an interesting primary school cross-curricula program. The fourth session of the day saw thinking spaces, minecraft and robotics, along with more tips on integrating STEM for Stage 4 and in a rural setting. Finally, we were challenged to consider project-based learning, thinking about what it means, what it looks like and the implications for student learning.
