Probability Model of Cells Forming Colonies

Summer Project

Summer 2015--2016

Abstract

2 experiments were undertaken on MCF-7 and 9-L cells, to determine how many colonies would form after: a) plating a controlled amount of cells and varying the experimental time-frame, and b) plating a varied amount of cells while keeping experimental time-frame set. Simultaneously, a statistical model was being developed using Probability Generating Functions (PGFs), aiming to devise a representation of the amount of colonies visible while knowing how many cells were initially plated, and the experimental time-frame. Attempts were made to unite the model and the experimental results. It is possible for this model to identify the probability of a cell doubling, or remaining single.
