Abstract

In this paper, several dynamical models for the epidemiology of tobacco smoking are examined. Following a literature review of some of the models available in this area, the traditional SIR endemic model is analysed as a motivating archetype. Three models for intrinsic only transmission of smoking are analysed. A further two models explicitly incorporating the effects of media are briefly investigated. It is concluded that preventative education campaigns are imperative for the reduction of smoking the population.
