Welcome to the research page of Dr Berwyck Poad. Berwyck is part of the Laser Chemistry Laboratory at the University of Wollongong, where we explore chemical properties using a mixture of laser based techniques and mass spectrometry.

Dec 2013 - Berwyck presents at 2013 RACI Physical Chemistry Conference and asks "Can Dianions Make Strong Gas-phase Bases?"

Nov 2013 - Congratulations to Matt Thompson on his Honours thesis submission and defence! Matt has been working on "Probing electron detachment and fragmentation from gas phase disulfonate dianions"

Laser Spectroscopy

We are often interested in the way that light interacts with molecules and ions. By measuring the colours of light that molecules and ions absorb and emit after exposing them to a laser pulse, we are able to infer some of the chemical properties the systems.

Mass Spectrometry

Often, the experiments that we would like to do require us to modify existing hardware or develop new mass spectrometry techniques. You can read more about this on our 'Machines' page.

To control our experiments and process data, we use a variety of different software packages. Links to the software we use, and some of our more useful programs may be found on the 'Links' page.
