 Bits for use when writing

Mergers as a road to dominance:- The US hospital scene has become a battleground for wealthy and powerful groups. Unethical and criminal conduct has little adverse financial impact. Settlements sound large but are small in comparison with profits generated for shareholders by growth. They are one of the costs of doing business. Mergers and alliances are seen as a crucial road to success.

Tenet/NME

Four months after the 1994 guilty plea Tenet/NME merged with American Medical International (AMI) which with the acquisition of a few not for profit hospitals gave it control of 76 hospitals. OrNda had purchased Summit Healthcare and American Healthcare Management (AHM). The deal with Tenet added OrNda's 50 hospitals to the 76 operated by Tenet. The combined company was expected to generate about $8.5 billion in annual revenues and operate 126 hospitals in 22 states.
