Career support for Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students

Determining your career path and finding work can be exciting and challenging. University of Wollongong - Careers Central is working with the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre (WIC) to support Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in developing and achieving their career aspirations by providing assistance with career counselling, career education and information, and employment support.

Careers Central approaches Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students’ career aspirations with respect for your cultural values. A career counsellor will be available by appointment at WIC. Appointments can be made in person at WIC reception, by phoning (02) 4221 3776 or emailing wic-enquiries@uow.edu.au

The career counsellor can help you clarify a career direction that fits with your skills and interests. The counsellor can also talk through the things you can do during and after your studies that will improve your chances of securing employment.

Careers Central also offers:

  • Tailored careers services and resources through your faculty or regional campus. The faculty and regional campus-based Career Consultants also offer individual career consultations, workshops, ideas about how to enhance your employability, job search support, resume advice, assistance with interview preparation and more.   • The Careers Central website is a useful source of information for job seeking and career information.
  • Careers Central also organises Careers Expos, On campus Employer Presentations, Job seeking workshops, and Workplace Learning Programs. Start thinking about life after uni now. There are so many things you can do while you study to increase your employment opportunities. Start now by popping into Careers Central or visiting our website. Or you could go directly to WIC to make an appointment with a career counsellor, or to talk to a Student Support Adviser.
