Why study Politics and International Studies?

The Politics and International Studies (PAIS) Program delivers quality teaching to students from engaged staff who research and write on the social, political and economic problems of the world. From inequality between and within nations, to the lack of women in the Australian parliament, PAIS staff and subjects will inform, challenge and inspire you to learn more about your community and the modern world.

PAIS subjects explore and investigate power relationships between citizens, government, civil society, political economy, culture, political ideologies, peace, conflict, international relations and the UN system, the environment and global development. We examine global trends that affect your life, with a focus on Australia and its region. Optional extras include Politics internships in Washington or Canberra, and undertaking part of your degree at an overseas university.

Your PAIS subjects can be studied as part of the Bachelor of International Studies, Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics, Bachelor of Arts or combined Law degrees. They will train you in how to think about our contemporary world and its challenges. Our graduates often find employment in federal and state government and the public service, including foreign affairs, treasury, environment, health and social services. NGOs and businesses also look for creative thinkers, so with your PAIS subjects at UOW there are no limits to where you can go in the world.
