Information for Staff
Learning Development is an educational unit within the Learning, Teaching & Curriculum area of the DVC (Academic) portfolio. Learning Development offers a range of programs to enhance the academic language and learning of an increasingly diverse student population.
LD lecturers work with faculty-based teaching academics and curriculum development teams to design and deliver resources, assessment tasks and teaching strategies targeting the development of students' proficiency (comprehension and communication competence) in academic English.
Collectively, the unit has decades of experience observing, interpreting and advising on various aspects of academic language and learning within the specific contexts of disciplines and subjects, and staff are available for collaboration on small or large scale projects to address various aspects of academic literacy and learning.
Students requiring short-term assistance with their academic literacies are encouraged to visit the Learning Co-op. Students requiring assistance with Maths, Statistics or Higher Degree Research literacies can make an appointment to see a Learning Development lecturer by presenting to Learning Development (Building 11, Level 2) or phoning 4221 3977.
Students with other, complex learning needs (see graphic) can be referred to a LD specialist by completing the 'Referral to Learning Development' online form [access via UOW authorised network only]. Unfortunately we are no longer able to accept phone or email referrals.
To see the LD services and resources available to students directly, please refer to the 'Information for Students' page.
