Travel Grants and Financial Support
Students are only eligible to receive either a UOW Travel Grant or an Australian Government Travel Grant, not both.
Students can receive an OS-Help loan with any Travel Grant.
Only domestic students (Australian citizens or permanent residents) are eligible for Australian Government Travel Grants, an OS-Help loan or Youth Allowance.
There are a number of funding options to assist students in studying overseas. These include:
- UOW Travel Grants
All exchange and short course students are eligible to apply for a UOW travel grant! These range from $500 for short courses and $1000 for semester exchange. Students applying for a $1000 semester exchange grant must meet the requirements. $500 short course grants are limited and are allocated by faculty. Students must submit their application by the below dates to be considered for these grants.
Winter Programs: 15th April 2017
Summer Programs: 15th September 2017
The Australian Government is offering eligible undergraduate students a loan of more than $6,000 per session of overseas study! (max two sessions). OS-Help loans of over $8000 including a language study loan are available for study to Asia.
- Youth Allowance
Many students are eligible to receive Youth Allowance or Austudy payments while on exchange. Visit Centrelink for further information (follow the links to the Overseas section of the website).
- Australian Government Travel Grants - funded mobility places for UOW students
UOW has been successful over a number of years in applying for government funding of between $2,000 and $8,000 per student for semester and short-courses worldwide, with the majority of the funded places for studies in Asia, through generous funding of the New Colombo Plan (NCP) scheme.
More than 650 places are available for programs running from now through until June 2021.
The funding allows you to undertake studies in specific countries and institutions, all chosen for the availability of subjects taught in English.
In addition to the advertised funding, you are also eligible for OS-HELP loans to meet any costs of the program, subject to meeting the OS-HELP conditions. For Asian destinations, check the subjects available by discipline.
Please note - You will need to apply well before the advertised NCP deadline to commence the course:
by 2 December for spring session of the following year - for Asia
by 2 June for autumn session of the following year - for Asia
by 4 August for autumn session of the following year - for Europe, UK, Latin America; and UOW Dubai
The number of places available are the total number of places funded, and the number of actual places remaining may be fewer – depending on demand and proximity to the application deadline.
