Withdrawing from Subjects

Withdrawing from subjects

Withdrawal from subjects will depend on what date it is within your session. Check out the key dates page for more information, and make your selection below for instructions.

Before census date

It's easy to withdraw from subject/s before census date, by selecting 'Enrolments and Variations' from your SOLS menu. They will be removed from your record, and you are not financially liable for them.

After census date

After the census date (but before the last date to withdraw without academic penalty), you can still withdraw from subjects by selecting 'Enrolments and Variations' from your SOLS menu.

You will still be required to pay for the subjects/. However, if you are approved for withdrawal and if you have extenuating circumstances, you can apply for a refund, which will be assessed in accordance with the UOW Fees Policy.

Last date to withdraw without academic penalty

After the Last Date to Withdraw Without Academic Penalty (but before the last teaching date of the session), if you have extenuating circumstances you can still make a special request to withdraw from subject/s by completing an application for late withdrawal without academic penalty. Applications are assessed by your faculty Head of Students.

You will still be required to pay for the subject/s. However, if you are approved for withdrawal and if you have extenuating circumstances, you can apply for a refund, which will be assessed in accordance with the UOW Fees Policy.

After last teaching date

If the last teaching date has passed for the session (but before release of results), and you have extenuating reasons for needing to withdraw from subject/s, you should contact your faculty to arrange to speak to your Head of Students who will assess your circumstances.

You will still be required to pay for the subject/s. However, if you are approved for withdrawal and if you have extenuating circumstances, you can apply for a refund, which will be assessed in accordance with the UOW Fees Policy.

After release of results

Beyond 10 days after release of results, it is no longer possible to request a withdrawal from subject/s.

You will still be required to pay for the subject/s.

If you experienced extreme circumstances which prevented you from being able to make a withdrawal request within the specified time frames (for example, you were hospitalised for several weeks), you should contact your faculty to arrange to speak to your Head of Students.

If you did not attempt the subject/s

If you did not attempt the subject at all, you can complete an Application to Amend Academic Record. An $80 fee applies if approved and UOW records will be checked to confirm whether you attempted the subject.

If the census date has passed, you will still be required to pay for the subject/s. However, if you are approved for withdrawal and if you have extenuating circumstances, you have up to 12 months to apply for a refund, which will be assessed in accordance with the UOW Fees Policy.
