Leaving UOW

Leaving UOW

University can be stressful. UOW has lots of support options available to help our students succeed.

If you don’t want to stop studying completely, but would like to take some time off, see information on taking a break from study.

However, if you have made the decision to stop studying with UOW, please see the below information on what to do next, depending on your residency status:

Domestic Students

you do not need to notify us officially. All you need to do is:

Before census date

Log into SOLS and withdraw yourself from all enrolled subjects. You must do this before census date to avoid being charged for subjects.

After census date

Once census date has passed, you are financially liable for all subjects you are enrolled into. If you are on a HECS or FEE HELP loan, your debt would have been reported to the ATO.

You should still withdraw yourself from your subjects via SOLS, to avoid Fail grades on your record.

If you have extenuating circumstances, you can apply for a refund of fees incurred.

After last date to withdraw without academic penalty

In addition to incurring fees (see above), you will also have grades recorded on your record.

If you have extenuating circumstances, you can apply for a late withdrawal without academic penalty.

If you do not re-enrol into your next session of study without seeking an official Leave of Absence, your course will automatically lapse. If you choose to return to UOW after your degree has lapsed, you can apply for a new offer.

International Students - On Student visas

For information on what to do to leave UOW, please see Options for Leaving.

There are conditions around getting a refund of fees paid. For details on what you might be entitled to, please see Fee Refunds for International Students.

International Students - Other Visa Types

You do not need to officially notify the University that you intend to stop studying, you simply need to withdraw from all your enrolled subjects in SOLS.

However, there are conditions around getting a refund of fees paid. For details on what you might be entitled to, please see Fee Refunds for International Students.

After 6 months without an active enrolment, your course will automatically lapse. If you choose to return to UOW after this time, you can apply for a new offer.
