Contact Details

If you would like to change your contact (address and phone) details, you can log onto SOLS and select ‘Address and Contact Details’ from the left hand menu.

Official Names

Official names are first names, middle names and surnames. Your official names will appear on UOW documentation, including transcripts and testamur.

If you have legally changed your name/s, please visit Student Central in Wollongong, or your local campus if studying outside of Wollongong, with an original, or certified copy of your:

  • Valid Passport
  • Birth certificate
  • Change of name certificate

A student’s official names with UOW must match the names shown on their evidence document (middle names are optional). Names are recorded with UOW in full, and initials and abbreviations are not used.

Gender

Students have the choice of three gender options:

  • Female (F)
  • Male (M)
  • Other / Indeterminate / Intersex (X)

If you have legally changed your name or gender, please visit Student Central in Wollongong, or your local campus if studying outside of Wollongong, with an original, or certified copy of your:

  • Valid Passport
  • Amended Birth Certificate
  • A State or Territory Gender Recognition Certificate or recognised details certificate showing a State or Territory Registrar of Birth Deaths and Marriages has accepted a change in sex
  • Statement from a Registered Medical Practitioner or a Registered Psychologist
     

Preferred First Name

If you would like to change your preferred first name name (eg. from Timothy to Tim), you can request to have this updated by logging into SOLS, selecting 'Student Forms' from the left hand menu, and selecting 'Add Preferred First Name'. Your preferred first name will appear on class roles, but not on official documentation. 

Title

Non-academic/professional titles are self-declared and do not require evidence (eg. Mr, Ms, Mx, Mrs, Miss). Students may choose whichever non-academic/professional title they prefer, and their chosen title is not restricted by their gender. Students can change this title by notifying Student Central.

If you need to change your title to an Academic and professional titles (such as Dr or Prof) please visit Student Central in Wollongong, or your local campus if studying outside of Wollongong, with an original, or certified copy of your:

  • Valid Passport
  • Birth certificate
  • Australian driver’s license
  • Testamur or Transcript verifying academic title 

 

Citizenship or Visa

If you have changed from an international student visa to another visa type, or if you have gained Australian citizenship,  please visit Student Central in Wollongong, or your local campus if studying outside of Wollongong, with an original, or certified copy of your official documentation to have your information updated.

Please note, if you are looking to have the changes apply to your tuition fees, you will need to provide evidence of the change before session census date (fees due date).

Once proof has been provided, any changes will apply to study periods where the census date has not yet passed.

Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders

Students will self-declare their Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status at the time of application or when they first enrol in a new degree. No verification is required.

If you need to change your Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander status after you have enrolled, you can do so by:

  1. Logging into SOLS
  2. Selecting Personal Details & Consent – Student Statistical Information
  3. Continuing to the second page
  4. Changing the status option on this page
  5. Clicking Submit
