Counselling Services

Counselling Services

The University Counselling Service provides a free and confidential service at Wollongong, 5 days per week from 9.00am until 5.30pm to assist GM students with personal, work or study related difficulties. The number of consultations needed depends on the problem but many difficulties require only one or a few sessions. Consultations typically last 50 minutes and are by appointment. Although appointments are usually made a week or more ahead, some emergency time-slots are available every day for crisis situations where someone needs to be seen immediately.

Phase 1

In Phase 1, counselling can be organised by either contacting the Counselling Service at Wollongong Campus through the Counselling Services @ UOW website or by phone. To make an appointment call the receptionist on 4221 3445 or drop into the Counselling Service on Level 3, Building 11. Feel free to ask for a male or female counsellor if you have a preference.

If you are a Shoalhaven student, then counselling can be organised at the Shoalhaven campus with sessions held in the Library Interview Room on Mondays, 9am-4pm. Appointments are essential! - Access counselling services by contacting the University counsellor - Gabrielle Booty (gbooty@uow.edu.au). The counsellor’s cards with contact details are available at the Campus Front Desk, or Library Reception. For further information, details can be accessed through the Shoalhaven Campus Counselling Service website.

Phase 2

Given the proximity of students to Wollongong and Shoalhaven campuses during Phase 2, similar arrangements can be utilised to that of Phase 1 however given the time constraints of the various Rotations, you can also make use of the phone services provided by the UOW Counselling Service. If you don’t wish to use the UOW services other agencies are provided at the bottom of this page.

Phases 3 & 4

As a student with access to Wollongong and Shoalhaven campuses during Phase 3 or 4, similar arrangements can be utilised to that of Phase 1. If you are located in a rural hub there are a number of options available.

  • you can also make use of the phone service provided by the UOW Counselling Service. This is particularly useful if you have had an ongoing relationship with a counsellor during Phases 1 & 2.
