Commercialisation & business development internship

Project Description

Funded through a Women in STEM and Entrepreneurship (WISE) grant, this opportunity is ideal for PhD students looking to broaden their career options beyond academia and build expertise in innovation, technology transfer, and research commercialisation.

The intern will receive $3,000 per month of the internship, in the form of scholarship payments, supported by the LIFT Project. Your PhD stipend will be paused whilst you receive this scholarship.

The intern is expected to undertake the iAccelerate Activate entrepreneurial training, the LIFT values and leadership retreat and community outreach as a condition of their scholarship. This may be asynchronous with their internship.

Selection Criteria

If you’re a postgraduate research student who identifies as a woman, are studying a STEM Field of Research code and meet some or all the below we want to hear from you. We strongly encourage women, Indigenous and candidates typically underrepresented in STEM to apply.

Skills

  • Analytical Skills: The ability to analyse data, identify trends, and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication is key for presenting research findings clearly and concisely, both in written reports and oral presentations. This also includes the ability to collaborate with team members and stakeholders.

Research Outcomes

It is expected that the intern will primarily undertake this research project during regular business hours, whilst their PhD research is paused, and maintain contact with their academic mentor throughout the internship either through face-to-face or phone meetings as appropriate.

The intern and their academic mentor will have the opportunity to negotiate the project’s scope, milestones and timeline during the project planning stage.
