Information for Staff
Staff Parking.... parking can be the pits!
Let’s face it, there are never going to be enough spaces for everyone to drive a car to the campus. Congestion and parking problems mean that it is much better to:
- Use Free Shuttle Buses
- Use Public transport
- Ride a bike; or
FIRST WEEKS OF AUTUMN AND SPRING SESSIONS
The first few weeks are invariably periods when traffic and parking is very congested and the roads around Wollongong Campus are something to be avoided. Why not try getting to work on the free shuttle bus, by public transport, walking or by bike, even if only for these few weeks? This will save you from the congestion, save you money and reduce your carbon footprint.
WHERE TO PARK
Parking on Campus is divided into different categories.
Ticket parking is available in the following areas:
- Pay & Display ticket parking (P3 north, P4, P7 west, P8 south) in signposted spaces.
- Parking Station parking (P1, P6).
- Carpool parking (P4 north) - (tickets are released when demand for carpooling is low).
Where can I park with my UOW entry (Blue) permit (FMD-PAR-FRM-009)?
UOW Entry Permit parking (P2, P3 south, P4, P5, P7, P8 north) in signposted spaces.
Most staff who drive choose permit parking. It is important that staff are aware that all options are available including sharing the cost of a permit with a colleague, ticket parking, using public transport, e.g. trains, buses, free shuttles, riding to work, walking, carpooling or using a mix of all these options.
Any vehicle parked on the Wollongong Campus must display a valid parking ticket or permit. UOW entry permits are available to staff through salary deductions or by cash purchase, but do not guarantee a space. Apply now.
FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED - NO GUARANTEES
Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The parking rules around the University are strictly applied and significant penalties apply. Spaces are limited and permits do not guarantee a space – check availability now.
Make sure to check the signs and park in the correct bay for a UOW entry permit. If using ticket parking, make sure you are in a ticket bay with a valid ‘pay & display’ ticket placed the correct side up on the vehicle dashboard so that the ticket is clearly visible. Check the ticket expiry time.
Free carpool parking is limited to cars carrying 3 or more people to the University. Reduce carbon emissions and share a ride. Find others travelling the same route and times on our online carpool system. Parking is free if you carry three or more. Carpooling is open to everyone, staff, students and visitors.
FREE SHUTTLE BUSES
Have you tried the free shuttle buses? They run 7am - 10pm between the University, Innovation Campus, North Wollongong, Wollongong City, Fairy Meadow, Gwynneville, Keiraville and part of West Wollongong – they are a great way to commute.
Feel great and avoid congestion by cycling to work. Cycle parking is convenient and safe, and secure undercover parking is available at the Wollongong and Innovation Campuses.
Reserved parking is also available, but is very limited - application form FMD-PAR-FRM-013 is available on the FMD Intranet site. Send the application form to the Financial Services Division for the attention of Finance Officer Janice Tinham, Administration, Building 36.
Reserved parking spaces are located in designated zones (P1, Buildings 3, 39, Administration Carpark, etc). Bay numbers are limited. There is usually a waiting list for this type of space. They are only available to Staff or Departments for departmental vehicles or departmental visitor management. Higher fees apply.
NRMA MEETING POINTS
If you break down, proceed to one of five roadside assistance meeting places. Phone the NRMA on the security telephone and quote the identification number on the sign at the meeting place.
If you have purchased a UOW parking entry permit you must ensure that you always display it on the windscreen and are parked within UOW permit bay/zone. Do not forget to swap your permit if you are driving a different car to campus. If you forget to bring your permit, you should park in a ticket bay and purchase and display a ticket. Do not park in a UOW permit bay and purchase and display a ticket as that is an offence.
It is not a reasonable excuse or defence to be a holder of a UOW permit and to not display a valid entry permit when parked in UOW entry permit bays. It is not a defence to say that you have paid for a permit and that you forgot to display it.
Note: Pay & Display tickets are not valid in UOW entry permit bays.
