UOW Professor to join Australian education review
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Eeva Leinonen has been appointed to the eight-member Teacher Education Ministerial Advisory Group that was announced by Minister for Education Hon Christopher Pyne last week. In an opinion piece published by the Sydney Morning Herald on 18 February Mr Pyne said teacher quality had been neglected for too long, despite it being one of the most important factors in maintaining a prolific education system. Professor Leinonen will work with the seven other appointed TEMAG members to examine current methods of teaching and learning, subject content and ways of improving in-school experience opportunities. Professor Leinonen said: “I am honoured and excited about the opportunity to be one of the academic members contributing to this important working group. “It’s vital that we provide education programs that are world class and equip the teachers of tomorrow with the skills and experience they need to deliver quality education in the classroom.”
The group will report back to Mr Pyne by July this year.
