Bachelor of Arts - Bachelor of Economics and Finance | 2018

Overview

This double degree program enables students to combine a major from the Bachelor of Arts and a major (including the core subjects) from the Bachelor of Economics and Finance. The choice of majors by students can reflect future employment or simply interest. Students have taken majors in Politics and Economics, Sociology and Human Resource Management, even Accounting and History.

Course Learning Outcomes

The course learning outcomes in each of these degrees complement and consolidate outcomes in the partner degree. Applied across two discipline areas, the outcomes are achieved at a broader and more comprehensive level.

Course Structure

To qualify for award of this degree students must complete a minimum of 210 credit points as outlined below:

1. 72 credit points of core subjects from the Bachelor of Economics and Finance;
2. 48 credit points of additional subjects from the Bachelor of Economics and Finance. Students must contact the Faculty of Business to discuss the appropriate selection of these subjects.
3. At least 90 credit points of subjects offered by the Faculty of Law, Humanities and the Arts. This will include:

• LHA 101 Introduction to Arts and the Humanities. This subject is undertaken in the first session and is designed to provide students with the academic skills necessary to succeed at University. LHA 101 assists students to understand the structure of their degree, plan their study pathway, and plan for post-university careers. it introduces students to key concepts including critical thinking, digital literacy, academic integrity, effective communication and degree and career planning;
• at least one of the majors listed in the Bachelor of Arts (minimum 48 and maximum 60 credit points);
• a second major (minimum 48 and maximum 60 credit points), or a minor (24 credit points), from within the Faculty of Law, Humanities and the Arts.

4. No more than 90 credit points in 100-level subjects.

Majors

Students in this double degree will take at least two majors. One from the Bachelor of Arts and one from the Bachelor of Economics and Finance . Follow the links to each Course Handbook page for information regarding the majors on offer.

For the Bachelor of Arts, students will also complete either a second major or a minor.

Students must consult with the Faculty of Business in regards to the selection and completion of their major.

Minors

Students can take Minors as part of their double degree program provided they meet the requirements set. Minor studies consist of a minimum of 24 credit points of which at least 12 credit points are at 200 level or higher.

Minors appear on the transcript (i.e. academic record), but do not appear on the testamur. To have a minor study recorded, students must submit an Application to Declare or Change Intended Major/Minor.

Work Integrated Learning

Undertaking a work integrated learning (WIL) experience during your university education is now a significant contributor to being competitive in securing employment in your field of choice when you graduate from UOW.

The Faculty of Law, Humanities and the Arts internship program provides students with an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in their degree in a workplace setting.

Some Majors will have a specific internship subject available for students. Otherwise, students can consider CRLP200 (6cp). CRLP200 includes a quality assured workplace internship or industry project to give you that competitive edge by developing your professional skills through authentic learning in a real world context. You will focus on your career goals and receive career direction guidance, strengthen your resume and gain skills to navigate the rapidly changing world of work, develop your communication skills and begin to build a professional network.
 

Honours

Honours is a fourth year of study that provides training in independent research. Students who complete the double degree with the required academic standard in the relevant major are encouraged to proceed to the Honours degree in the Bachelor of Arts (Honours).
