Overview

The Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies is only available to approved cohorts of students.

Entry Requirements & Credit Arrangements

Students who have a recognised bachelor level qualification, who have some experience in education and training are eligible to apply for the Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies. The course will include options for participation in subjects related to teaching methods, depending on each individual student’s experience in these disciplines. Student applications will be assessed in line with current UOW admissions policy and procedure.

English Language Assessment

Students with an IELTS (or equivalent) score of 6.5 (no less than 6 in each band) will be admitted directly into this course (as determined by the UOW admissions process) in line with current entry requirements for courses that include in-school placements.  Students with an IELTS score below the minimum score of 6.5 will be required to attend the English Language training through UOW College Australia, prior to commencing their course.
 

Course Learning Outcomes

Students graduating from the Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies will:

  1. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of educational theory, policy and practice, evaluating and applying them to their own professional teaching practice.
  2. Demonstrate skills and knowledge to evaluate, interpret, and design educational programs.
  3. Demonstrate integrated understanding of the complexities of classrooms and schools, developed through participation in professional dialogue with practitioners, peers, school immersion and professional experience programs.
  4. Work as adaptable, responsible, reflective, autonomous secondary teachers who use their skills and knowledge of teaching, learning and learners to make informed judgments that improve their classroom practice and their students’ learning.
  5. Analyse, interpret and effectively communicate the complexity of factors influencing learning to students, parents, and colleagues.
  6. Work effectively with students, families and colleagues in the education setting, building relationships that contribute to students’ and teachers’ learning and well-being.

Course Structure

The Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies requires the successful completion of 48 credit points as set out in the table below:

Compulsory Work Placement / Online Components

This course contains a total of 20 hours over 26 weeks of compulsory work-based placements. This course may also contain compulsory components to be completed online.
