Course Description
The Bachelor of Primary Education is a specialist program preparing graduates for the rewarding role of being a primary school educator. This degree is an accredited qualification to teach children from Kindergarten to Year 6 (ages 5 - 12 years) in public and private schools across Australia.
The course aims to develop reflective, professional teachers, acknowledging the role of the teacher in the community, the demands of emerging technologies and the increasingly diverse classroom environment.
Core subjects cover professional development, curriculum studies and special and gifted education, Aboriginal education, educational psychology and cultural diversity in classrooms.
Practical teaching experiences are integrated into all four years of the degree. Students will have the opportunity to experience life as a teacher in real school and classroom settings from their first session of their first year of study. Professional experience placements usually occur in the local schools in the Illawarra, Shoalhaven, Southern Highlands and Southern Sydney. Students also have the opportunity to apply for rural or international professional experiences.
