COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to provide Enrolled Nurses with a pathway into the Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Wollongong (UOW).

Mapping occurred against the University of Wollongong Bachelor of Nursing curriculum and the New South Wales Technical and Further Education Commission (NSW TAFE) curriculum for Enrolled Nurses. As a result of the mapping exercise a subject has been developed to cover the gaps in knowledge, skills and attitudes between an Enrolled Nurse with a Diploma in Nursing (Enrolled Nurse) and an undergraduate student who has completed Year 1 in the Bachelor of Nursing Program at the University of Wollongong.

The aim of the course is to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes to facilitate Diploma level Enrolled Nurses entry into Year Two of the Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Wollongong. Specifically, the course aims to:

  • Develop an understanding of concepts within nursing (specific to the Registered Nurse)
  • Develop literacy and computer skills in accordance with the University of Wollongong tertiary literacy competencies

The nursing competencies that underpin the course are those outlined by the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Council (ANMC). The Bridging Course will update the levels of knowledge, skills and attitudes of the Enrolled Nurse to the competencies of a student who has completed one year of the Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Wollongong. The students entering the Bridging Course have met the Legislative Enrolled Nurses ANMC Competencies .

Entry Requirements

Students must be registered as an Enrolled Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. In addition, students must have completed TAFE Course 14393 Diploma in Nursing (Enrolled/Division 2 Nursing), or equivalent.

Diploma qualified Enrolled Nurses are not required to complete further studies at TAFE. Students must be approved for entry into Course Code 963 Bridging Program for Enrolled Nurses at UOW.

All applicants must submit an Undergraduate Coursework Application Form directly to UniAdvice at the University.
