Master of Science - Research

Overview

The Master of Science (Research) provides the opportunity to pursue independent research in fields including biomedical science, exercise science, exercise rehabilitation, nutrition and dietetics, and public health. Students should consult the information under the Doctor of Philosophy for information about each department's research areas.

Entry Requirements / Assumed Knowledge

Normally students must have an honours degree of at least four years duration of Class II, Division 2 standard in a relevant discipline. International students are required to have achieved an IELTS score of 6, with a level of 6 in reading, writing, speaking and listening.

Advanced Standing

Advanced standing for the coursework component may be granted to those who have completed an appropriate Bachelor (Honours) Degree.

Course Requirements

All candidates for this program must present a research seminar in each enrolled year, take part in a research proposal and defence process, and submit a written research thesis.

Students entering the program with an Honours Bachelor degree with at least Class II, Division 2 are required to complete a research thesis to the value of 48 credit points.

Students who do not have an Honours Bachelor degree with at least Class II, Division 2 must complete 24 credit points of coursework research methodology and as well as complete a 48 credit point major thesis.

In The Graduate School of Public Health program, a detailed research proposal must be submitted for examination at about one third of the duration of the candidature. This examination must be passed successfully for the candidature to be allowed to continue.

Master of Science - Research (Psychology)

Overview

The Master of Science (Research) provides the opportunity to pursue research in psychology. Students should consult the information under the Doctor of Philosophy for information about the department's research areas.

Entry Requirements / Assumed Knowledge

Students must have an honours degree of at least four years duration of Class II, Division 2 standard in a relevant discipline. It is possible to admit only a limited number of students each year. If the number of applicants exceeds the quota, admission will be based on academic qualifications.

International students are required to have achieved an IELTS score of 6, with a level of 6 in reading and writing, and 5 in speaking and listening.
