The UOW Tottenham Hotspur Global Football Program is a unique opportunity to study a qualification of your choice at UOW's Wollongong campus, while also developing your football skills with training provided by fully qualified coaches from English Premier League (EPL) club Tottenham Hotspur.

Program details

Participants will receive:

  • Full-time training program each week, for 36 weeks, scheduled around your academic study.
  • Training programs are composed and conducted by two dedicated UEFA and FA-qualified Tottenham Hotspur Football Club coaches.
  • Gold level membership to UniActive Gym at our Wollongong and Innovation campuses.
  • UOW Tottenham Hotspur Global Football Program branded Nike gear for all on and off-field activity.
  • Access to our Player Development Coordinator for assistance with off field development and organisation.
  • Individualised Strength & Conditioning program and supervised gym sessions to ensure you are physically prepared to take your game to the next level.
  • Insurance under University of Wollongong’s wider sports participation insurance policy.

UOW Tottenham Hotspur Global Football Program Timetable

  • The program is open to applications from domestic and international student studying at – or applying to study at – UOW for courses available at the Wollongong campus.
  • Academic applications can be for a UOW degree or UOW College Australia academic or English qualification. Students applying for the program must also submit a separate application to study at UOW or UOW College, via the relevant application process.
  • The football program will be undertaken in addition to your academic studies.
  • You must provide a summary of your football playing experience to date as part of your online application. There is no set level of ability or experience that impacts eligibility into the program, the coaches will tailor the program to your individual needs.

The program costs $12,000 AUD per annum, per applicant. Please refer to the  tab for more details. 

Applicants will be required to pay a non-refundable deposit of $3,000 at the time they accept their place in the Global Football Program.

The remainder of the program fees will be paid in two payments: the first payment will be required to be made prior to the start of Session 1, and the second payment is required prior to the start of Session 2.

There are merit-based scholarships available for players playing their club football at an NPL level in NSW, as well as a limited number of Coach Scholarships for those playing outside the NPL system. Our Tottenham Hotspur coaches will award the Coach Scholarships based on evaluation sessions held at UOW or by video evaluation if necessary. The value of all scholarships will be $2,000 which will be taken off the final payment for the program.

UOW offers a range of accommodation options conveniently located both on campus and in the Wollongong CBD. 

Kooloobong Village is conveniently located on the Wollongong campus and is within walking distance from training grounds, facilities and classes and is also only a short ride into the Wollongong CBD on the free shuttle.

UOW Living can guarantee eligible first-year students a place in a UOW residence. Knowing you’re going to have a roof over your head is one less thing to worry about

Frequently asked questions

Q: What level of football ability or experience do I need to join the Program?

A: There is no set level of ability or experience you need to have to be eligible for the Global Football Program. The coaches in the program have worked with males and females of varying abilities and the program will be tailored to your individual requirements to help you reach your maximum potential as a footballer.

Q: How will I fit in the extra training around my study, club football and work commitments?

A: The Program Manager will work with you to plan your training sessions and other program activities around your study and club commitments. The Global Football Program training sessions are generally in the morning to avoid any clashes with study and club football. There are team sessions each morning, of which you would be expected to attend 4 of those per week. There is also an opportunity to schedule individual or small group sessions around your academic timetable.

Q: What does the program offer?

A: The Global Football Program offers a wide range of services that enable all players to develop and learn both on and off the field. The Global Football Program has dedicated staff in the following areas:

Two UEFA Licensed Coaches

Every player works with our 2 THFC Coaches 5 days a week with group sessions, small group sessions, and 1-on-1 programs.

Individual strength and conditioning programs

Strength and Conditioning specialists will design individualised programs for each student enrolled in the program to help maintain and improve physical performance. Regular testing is also conducted to monitor player progress throughout the year.

Customised fitness programs

We focus on helping students maintain physical fitness for the pitch. Our health and medical staff provide education and regular check-ups with students to maintain health and fitness and reduce injuries.

Specialist goalkeeper coaching

Each Goalkeeper in the GFP program will receive high-quality Goalkeeper training 3 times a week, with small group sessions and 1-on-1 sessions available.

Q: I will be relocating to Wollongong to join the Program, how will I find a club to play for?

A: The UOW Global Sports Program Manager along with the coaching staff will assist you in finding a local club that is suitable for your level. We have built relationships with many clubs in the region and will be able to find a club for all levels of ability.

Q: I will be commuting to Wollongong to study and for the Program. I am happy with the club I am currently playing at, do I need to join a local club in the Illawarra?

A: If you have a club you would like to remain playing for, you do not have to find a new club in the Illawarra. Be mindful of the commitment you are making to the program and your study as the commute time will need to be factored into your week.

Q: Why Tottenham Hotspur FC?

A: Tottenham Hotspur is renowned across the globe for developing talented young players for both Club and country. This includes current first-team players such as Harry Kane, Oliver Skipp and Jessica Naz. Tottenham’s Global Football Programs offer world-class experiences, inspiring young players by using training methods direct from our Academy to support every player to reach their full potential. Together with the UOW, the Global Football Program will allow students the opportunity to become some of the best players in the region.

Q: I am not sure I want to commit to studying for three years, is there a course I can do to complement the GFP for 2021?

A: To be eligible for the Global Football Program you must be an enrolled student at UOW or UOW College. If you are not sure you are ready to commit to a full degree at UOW, there are options at the UOW College which are shorter options to kick-start your education at UOW.

Q: Will there be an opportunity for a UK Tour?

A: Yes. The UK Tour has been designed to give students the opportunity to go visit Tottenham Hotspur’s brand new stadium and Training Ground whilst also having the chance to go into London to see some of their world-famous sights. This end-of-year tour will be an additional cost.

Q: Will this program help me progress as a footballer?

A: With 5 days a week of training, regular gym schedules, and other services provided, the Global Football Program will push every player to their footballing limit, giving them the best opportunity to develop. With the regional connections assembled, the GFP can give you the best chance of trailing, training, and playing with reputable teams of all abilities in the Illawarra region.
