Overseas student health cover

All study abroad and exchange students* are required to take out overseas student health cover (OSHC). The UOW provider is BUPA Australia.

Upon arrival in Wollongong, your address is temporarily listed with BUPA as the “Office of Global Student Mobility at UOW”, in order to prevent delays in receiving refunds. It is important that you change your address with BUPA as soon as possible. You can change your address via the BUPA website.

How to make a claim:
You can make a claim with BUPA online, on-campus or by phone using the contact details provided above.

To order your Bupa membership card for your Overseas Student Health Cover, follow these steps:

  • Register myBupa account.
  • Click the ‘Cover’ option in the menu of the Home Page
  • Select ‘Order a membership card’
  • Check that your contact details are correct. Update your Australian home mailing address in the “Membership address” section. Please delate campus address and update your personal postal address. If you live in UOW accommodation, please request your postal address from accommodation address.
  • Then select ‘Order’

If you have issues registering, please send your Coe to oshconcampusteam@bupa.com.au or call 1800 644 111. If you have a family or couple cover, please send your family members’ full name, date of birth and gender plus your Coe to oshconcampusteam@bupa.com.au and we will then add your family members into your policy and send you another email to let you know how to order cards for your family.

What’s covered?
OSHC will help you to pay for medical (doctor, pathology, x-rays) and hospital care and will contribute towards the cost of most prescription medicines and emergency ambulance transport. OSHC will not pay for services such as dental, optical or physiotherapy, treatment for medical conditions in existence before you came to Australia, or treatment arranged before you came to Australia.
