Jessie Posar, PhD student in the Centre for Medical Radiation Physics, was recently awarded the Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering (AINSE) Scholar Gold Medal for her PhD thesis Characterisation of Organic Semiconductors for Ionising Radiation Dosimetry in Medical Applications. The AINSE Scholar Gold Medal recognises excellence and impact in research and is a highly competitive award.
Jessie’s research focused on a new generation of carbon-based organic semiconductors for ionizing radiation sensing. The research highlighted key features and new design rules for optimizing the performance and stability of organic radiation detectors. The results demonstrated that organic radiation detectors exhibit the ability to be used as printable, flexible, and wearable technology to actively monitor a patient during radiation treatment.
The award will presented at the AINSE Annual General Meeting in May 2022.
