Professional experience

Professional experience placements represent a core component of a future engineering or Information Technology degree, and allow students the opportunity to work in an industry and gain real-world experience before leaving university.

MMMB/CME 

As a requirement for the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) suite of degrees, students are required to obtain at least 12 weeks approved professional experience in a relevant industry during the course and submit a report to the satisfaction of the Professional Experience Coordinator.

SECTE 

As a requirement for the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Electrical, Computing and Telecommunications degree, students are required to complete at least 12 weeks of approved professional experience. This experience must be in an industry relevant to the degree that is being undertaken in order for students to gain exposure to the external industry environment and participate in a hands-on learning experience. 

SCIT

  • BIT students who commenced their degree in 2016, the Faculty encourages the development of computing, information technology, information systems skills and knowledge in the workplace through industry placement. Completion of ISIT200 Industry Placement, which is a minimum of a single 8-week period of approved industry placement, assessed in the form of written reports is highly recommended to all students to complete this placement. 
  • BIT students who commenced prior to 2016 must satisfactorily complete one 8-week period of approved Industry Placement before they can graduate.
