Year 11 University Preparation Program

The Year 11 UPP Program is offered to students throughout Year 11 for UOW’s In2Uni schools. The program is designed to give students a heads-up for the HSC, provide them with access to core skills and strategies to assist their capacity building and help to prepare them for their senior studies.

Program overview

Current university students deliver in-class modules to Year 11 students with the aim of providing HSC tips, information about pathways to higher education, and strategies to assist their success across their HSC subjects studied. Each of the 4 x workshops are delivered once a term on a date and time selected by the school, however the In2uni Team can be flexible as to when this program is delivered in schools. Term modules offered in 2020 for delivery include:

  • Term 1: Understanding your learning style – The VARK Quiz & Strategies to best support your learning
  • Term 2: Critical Thinking & Exam Preparation –
Key strategies to enable critical thinking skills and confident preparation for exams and assessment tasks
  • Term 3: Time Management – Key skills and strategies to best manage student time and competing priorities
  • Term 4: Your HSC & Career Options Ahead – Understanding pathways available beyond the HSC
(University, TAFE & VET & Employment) & key considerations to best prepare

*Please note: 2020 Year 11 UPP program delivery dates in schools are currently TBC due to the COVID-19 impacts affecting UOW and NSW Schools. We will provide schools with updates as soon as they are available. We would love to speak to all of your Year 11 students. We usually send two staff for every 30 students enrolled in Year 11 at your school.

Here are some examples of how we have structured the sessions in the past:

  • 1 -1.5 Hour Sessions: Two In2Uni Mentors, working with 30 students in-class or after school hours
  • 1-1.5 Hour Sessions offered to whole of cohort group or smaller student group

Information for parents

The expectations of the senior years of high school are different to what your child has experienced so far. These new expectations require a new set of skills to be developed to ensure your child can perform to their best during their Preliminary and HSC courses.

Year 11 UPP Workshops are designed to introduce your child to these ‘soft skills’ and explain how they can benefit from these throughout their senior studies and beyond.

As a number of schools already offer transition programs to their incoming senior students, the Year 11 UPP Program has been designed to allow flexibility for schools to draw on the areas they feel will be of most benefit to their particular group of students.
