Team UOW City2Surf

Team UOW City2Surf update

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, safety considerations and financial constraints, we have made the difficult decision not to proceed with a UOW team for the City2Surf this year.

In addition, due to UOW’s financial outlook, UOW's Community Investment Program will not be able to provide sponsorship for the team during 2021 or 2022.

We wanted to let you know of this decision as early as possible so you can go ahead and make your own plans to participate in this event in the coming years.

Thank you for your support of the team to date.

Over two decades of running

The University of Wollongong has a long history supporting the City2Surf event and fielding a UOW City2Surf Team.

The City2Surf started in 1971 with about 1500 participants. Over the years it has grown to be one of the largest mass participation fun runs in the world and is now an iconic event with more than 85,000 participants.

The first University of Wollongong team ran in 1997 with a team of approximately 100 members and by 2007 had over 400 participants.

The UOW City2Surf team attracts staff, students, alumni and community members and is a great community engagement exercise.

Team UOW 2019 City2Surf

Congratulations on another successful City2Surf. This year over 120 participants joined Team UOW and hit the pavement for the biggest fun run in the Southern Hemisphere. The day was a huge success and even the windy conditions didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of our runners and walkers.

This year Team UOW ran to support Motor Neurone Disease research at the University of Wollongong.  Thanks to the generosity of our fundraisers and supporters Team UOW raised over $900…well done! We trust all of our participants enjoyed the day and hope you will join us again in 2020.

Team UOW 2018 City2Surf

Congratulations to Team UOW for participating in the 2018 City2Surf, we hope you had a fun and fulfilling day running with the team! We trust there were a few PBs and memorable moments to speak of!

A special thanks goes out to members of the Organising Committee from UOW’s Advancement Division, Workplace Health and Safety Unit, Student Life Programs, UOW Social Club and UOW Pulse for making all the arrangements including; training support, transport, T-shirts and general event logistics – your support is gratefully received.

On behalf of Team UOW, thanks to UOW for generously sponsoring the team and we would also like to acknowledge the support of the businesses who served this year’s team; IGA Wollongong Campus, AceIt, Premier Coaches, Thrifty, Bondi Public School and Culinarius.

Team UOW 2017 City2Surf

On Sunday 13 August 2017 the University of Wollongong (UOW) fielded a team of 200 walkers and runners. This was the 21st year that UOW staff, students, alumni and community members joined together to participate in the world's largest fun run.

Highlights of the day included the stories of team members overcoming challenges to prepare for and complete the 14 km course. Professor John Ryan was one of the many enthusiastic people who joined in lunch time training sessions run by UOW Pulse. Watch John’s story.

On behalf of the UOW team we would like to thank the University for generously sponsoring the team and we also acknowledge the support and commitment of the businesses who served the team, AceIt, Out for Lunch and Premier Coaches. Congratulations to all our competitors.
