The Gay Bates Memorial
The Gay Bates Memorial has been established by Centrelink to raise funds for cancer research at UOW.
Fundraising progress - over $12,000 raised so far!
In 2009 Gay Bates sadly lost her battle with cancer. Gay was a wife and mother, as well as a valued and respected colleague at Centrelink.
To honour Gay's life and her commitment to making a positive influence in the lives of others, the Gay Bates Memorial was established to support vital cancer research at the University of Wollongong. Like Gay the members of the Cancer Drug Research Group aim to make a positive influence in the lives of others by working to improve the treatments and outcomes for cancer patients. In particular the group is committed to reducing the debilitating side effects of drugs used in chemotherapy.
Through the generosity of Gay's colleagues and their combined fundraising activities in 2010, a total of $12, 220.80 was received in gifts. This is an invaluable contribution to the work undertaken by the Cancer Drug Research Group and for cancer research in this region.
