Travelling to Australia from overseas

Effective from midnight AEDST 28 March 2020, if you’re arriving back in Australia you’ll be subject to the Australian Government’s mandatory quarantine period of 14 days at your first Australian destination.

Please access the Smartraveller 'Returning to Australia' site for the most up-to-date advice on this Government directive.

Travelling overseas from Australia

From 11:59pm on 25 March 2020, the Australian government implemented a ‘do not travel’ ban on Australians travelling overseas.

Exemptions will apply to a range of categories of travellers, including for those citizens ordinarily resident overseas, where travel is essential or necessary, where travel is in the national interest, and on compassionate and humanitarian grounds.

This prohibition is aligned with the Government’s decision to raise the Smartraveller Travel Advice to Level 4 - Do Not Travel overseas. Please consult the Smartraveller website for the latest advice.
