The ones to follow from 2018

UOW alumni are ambitious, creative and connected and they’re gaining quite a following. Here are just a few we like to follow.

The gamer


Rebecca Fernandez O’Shea is a graphics programmer at Nixxes Software on Shadow of the Tomb Raider. She previously worked at TT Games and WeirdBeard Games. She is currently living in Amsterdam.

The journalist


Summer May Finlay is a Yorta Yorta woman, public health professional, PhD candidate and an avid social media user. She is passionate about Australian politics, Aboriginal issues, health, music, art, films and writes about a variety of other topics. She was flagged in The Conversation in 2016 as one of 12 indigenous social influencers to follow.


The actress


Kat Hoyos is an Australian actress, singer, and dancer, best known for her role in Channel 9 television series Here Come The Habibs. She has also appeared in Chasing Comets and was cast in the short film The Road Home.

The entrepreneur


Eliza has been the founder and director of a portfolio of successful travel industry and hospitality businesses, including Smartflyer Australia, Travel Emporium by Fairflights and Riche Travel. Followers can live vicariously through Eliza’s posts of her travels around the world.


The podcast

Can you tell me why?
UOW’s podcast has some surprising answers to life’s difficult questions including ‘Why can’t I keep my exercise routine?’, ‘Why is there a war on drugs?’ and ‘Why is it so hard to buy a house?’. The podcast is co-hosted by UOW alumna Hannah Laxton-Koonce and William Verity.

The band



Caravãna Sun featuring UOW alumni Anthony Beard, Alex Dumbrell and Luke Caruana, Caravãna Sun formed in 2009 with the simple ambitions of creating music they loved and then touring/surfing their way up and down the east coast. Seven European tours and countless national tours later these indie surf rockers are kicking goals and have just completed an Australian tour with their latest EP Silver Linings.
