Warwick Gullett

Professor Warwick Gullett

Professor Gullett was appointed as Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Wollongong on 1 November 2012. He joined the Faculty of Law in 2004. He has taught the Law of Torts in the LLB degree program for many years as well as a range of other units including Law of the Sea and Marine Resources Law. From 2009 to 2011 he served as Associate Dean (Research), Head of Postgraduate Studies and Chair of the Faculty’s Research Committee. He served as Deputy Director of the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) from January to October 2012. 

Professor Gullett is a graduate of Monash University (LLB, BA(Hons)) and the Australian National University (PhD). From 2001-2004 he was a Lecturer at the Australian Maritime College in Tasmania.

Professor Gullett’s primary research interests are in the fields of the international law of the sea, environmental law and marine policy. His key publications are in the areas of Australian and international fisheries law, environmental impact assessment and the precautionary principle. Current research projects are in the areas of offshore law enforcement and Indigenous rights in intertidal areas.

Professor Gullett is the author of Fisheries Law in Australia (LexisNexis Butterworths, 2008) and editor, with Clive Schofield and Joanna Vince, of Marine Resources Management (LexisNexis Butterworths, 2011).

Professor Gullett’s work has been cited by the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, Commonwealth Administrative Appeals Tribunal, NSW Land and Environment Court and the South Australian Environment, Resources and Development Court.

From 2008-2010 Professor Gullett was Editor of the Australian Journal of Maritime and Ocean Affairs. He is on the Editorial Committee of the Australasian Journal of Natural Resources Law and Policy and serves as Fisheries Editor for the Environmental and Planning Law Journal. He was nominated as an expert of international standing by the ARC College of Experts in 2008.
