Wollongong Campus Security Services

UOW Security operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the year.  UOW Security operations are located in Northfields Avenue at Building 39 (see map).

UOW Security has General Support Staff on duty in session between the hours of 7am and 11pm Monday to Friday. Out of session the General Support Staff are on duty between 10am and 6pm Monday to Friday. Outside these times the telephones are supported by a pager service and Security Officers can be called back to the Office to deal with customer inquiries.

UOW Security’s primary role on campus is the protection of people and property. It undertakes this role through proactive foot, bike and vehicle patrols of the campus. The unit responds to security and intrusion alarms, fire alarms and provides assistance when requested. The unit, under the auspices of the Campus Emergency Management Plan, is delegated the role of primary emergency response team.

UOW Security provides an invaluable service to the campus community through:

  • Safe escort service after dark.
  • Providing assistance.
  • Answering inquiries.
  • Handling found and lost property inquiries.
  • Patrolling campus for safety and protection of people and assets.
  • Providing first aid assistance.
  • Accepting incident reports from members of the community about thefts, etc.
  • Responding to reports about suspicious persons, activity or conduct.
  • Supervising traffic and parking operations.
  • Responding to emergencies.

UOW Security can be contacted through office telephones or from any Security telephone located about campus.

UOW Security employs through contract both male and female Security Officers. All Officers are licensed security operatives as required by the Security Industry Act. All Officers are required to maintain a current senior first aid certificate and undergo training in various aspects of their work including fire safety.

The unit relies on members of the campus community to report problems, suspicious persons or incidents immediately they occur. Without this assistance, the campus community cannot function effectively.
