Elected by Professional staff.
Term expires 31 December 2023.
Ms Eve Steinke was elected to be the non-academic staff representative on Council, effective 1 January 2022 for a two year term.
Eve is currently the Associate Director of Research Integrity & Ethics, overseeing the operation of the ethics, integrity and biosafety committees and associated training and compliance activities. Eve’s focus is on supporting high quality research and a safe, fair, and respectful research culture through development of effective governance frameworks and co-ordination of training and outreach. Eve is strongly committed to developing the training and outreach program, seeing it as key to supporting a healthy research culture.
Throughout her career Eve has worked in a range of roles in the higher education sector, including technical and administrative positions at different universities, providing her with a broad exposure to the working environments of professional staff. Immediately prior to joining UOW Eve worked for a number of years in risk management as a senior policy officer with Biosecurity Australia. Working with stakeholders to find practical, ethical, solutions where policy and practice are in conflict has been a core part of Eve’s work at UOW and at Biosecurity Australia. This experience, coupled with a solid understanding of how to be an effective committee member gained from oversight of the ethics, integrity and biosafety committees for more than 15 years, places Eve in an excellent position to represent non-academic staff on Council.
Eve holds a Bachelor of Science in Botany, a Graduate Diploma in Environmental Law, and a Master of Science in Plant-Microbe Interactions.
