Jackson Cocks Elected by Undergraduate students

Term expires 31 December 2022

Mr Jackson Cocks was elected to Council by the undergraduate students of the University for a two-year term, commencing 1 January 2021. Jackson is studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechatronics) and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours). This unique degree combination gives him a range of experiences in many areas of the University, assisting him to put forward different student perspectives to the Council.

Jackson has also been a member on the University’s Academic Senate and the Student Advisory Council from 2020. He is an advocate for strong student representation at the University as he believes it is key to giving students the best university experience. He has also been involved in other task and finish groups, working towards developing student-staff partnerships and ensuring university governance bodies are appropriate and adapted to serve their purpose.

In addition to his degree, Jackson has taken on various roles at the University of Wollongong Law Students’ Society since 2019 working on marketing, policy development and ensuring the smooth operation of the Society. For this work, he was recognised by the School of Law through an Excellence in Student Leadership Award. He also chaired the Society’s Faculty Feedback Committee which provided feedback to the University on key issues surrounding online learning. He has worked as a caseworker at the Illawarra Legal Centre, providing support to the Illawarra community and assisting in policy contributions, and has research experience working with ANCORS at the University of Wollongong.

Jackson enjoys engaging with other students, whether at student representation forums, in the classroom or at university social events. He is currently working on projects seeking to improve student representation at the University as well as a project addressing student requests for reviews of marks and grades.
