The University of Wollongong Recreation & Acquatic Centre (URAC)

Located in the superbly landscaped grounds of the University of Wollongong, is a modern and well equipped venue with a full double basketball court which will serve as our Dojo for the seminar, gradings and Championship.

URAC has fully furnished shower and change facilities, squash courts, a gymnasium, tennis court, a full olympic-sized heated swimming pool and a physiotherapy sports medicine clinic. It also hosts the Pool Unique Cafe which can cater to most of your dietary preferences. There is also an ATM cash machine and public telephone in the foyer for your convenience.

We will be making use of the Annexe Room and its Balcony for our lunch breaks.

Directly opposite the URAC entrance is a BusStop for the shuttle busses which will regularly run between the Venue and the Campus East accommodation facility

NB: some key Campus features are detailed in the text below the map image

  • Northfields Avenue runs horizontally along the bottom of the image. left-to-right.
  • The main entrance to the University is shown as the roundabout in the lower right hand corner.
  • From the main entrance a ring road rounds around the grounds and exits at a larger roundabout about midway along Northfields Ave labelled as 'western entrance'.
  • In the upper right corner of the image you will see three large oval playing fields. Between these the is the URAC centre, Building No13.
  • If you are driving to the venue, the large Ovals carpark (located just below and to the right of the venue) is the best place to park. This carpark is entered from the ringroad by veering off it & continuing due west as you pass Building 3 (ie: running to the left of picture), instead of following the ringroad around to the URAC Building (13) itself.
  • Of other interest, in the lower part of the map, in the right hand half, you may also find building 12 the UniBar and just near that, Building 11 the UniCentre which contains several retail outlets and eateries. there is another food outlet, and a full-service restaurant, located in Building 67 McKinnon Building , near the middle of the image. The Picasso Coffee Cart is located roughly in the center of the right half of the map (directly down from the URAC venue) in the small courtyard between buildings 35, 15 & 14.

Picasso Coffee Cart

Roughly in the center of the right half of the map, you can find a small courtyard between buildings 35, 15 & 14 ... here you will find the Picasso Coffee Cart which makes the best coffee in the world. People who buy coffee elsewhere on campus do so only out of ignorance, or because they dont have time to go to Picasso's!

Once you've tried this stuff you'll be hooked! We hope to be able to organise "coffee-runs" to Picasso's during training breaks - with luck we'll be able to collect money and orders and send a runner over to place the orders. It may take several volunteers to help carry it all back though!

UniCentre

This is the main retail center of the University and contains several food outlets, a general store, PostOffice, a Hairdresser and numerous function rooms.

Immediately outside the UniCentre on Northfields Avenue is a large bus terminal which covers all major routes in Wollongong. Fewer bus services run to the Uni in the January break than during the teaching sessions of course, but it is still a busy and well catered stop.

Food Rethought Restaurant

Located on the 1st level of Building 67 (McKinnon Building) This is the Uni's "up-market" food outlet where you may enjoy top-class cuisine. Please note, you may need a booking to get a table here in peak times.
