How to get to Wollongong (1) Driving from Sydney Wollongong is clearly marked on many major roads in the southern half of Sydney. Head towards Southerlandand and Waterfall. Take the "F6" freeway all the way to Wollongong. You will come down a rather steep mountainside road and have the worlds best view ahead of you (but we recommend you keep your eyes on the road!) Looking at the map below, you will enter from the left on the yellow "Mount Ousley Road" ... at the bottom of the hill veer left and follow the dark green freeway on a large bend to the right (watch out for speed cameras!) and take the first exit to your LEFT. This takes you up to an overpass where you turn RIGHT at a small roundabout. Travel west about 150m to another roundabout and turn RIGHT once more (there should be numerous signs to the University!). Now travel north about 400m to the University Entrance. If you wish to drive directly to the Campus East accommodation facility (the pale-brown area in the upper right of the map), then stay on Mount Ousley Road until you reach a T-interection with the Prince's Highway (facing a large fast-food centre with a large McDonald's sign) and turn left. Continue about 1km or so and turn right onto Elliot's Road (just near a Mobil service station with a carwash) which takes you over the railway line on a bridge. Just after the bridge, take the next right on Cowper Street (just after a small corner store on your right) and this will lead you into the facility. (2) Catching the Train from Sydney Mascot airport features an excellent rail service from an underground station direct to Sydney Central Railway Station. Please ask the ground staff in your arriving terminal and they can direct you. Once at Sydney Central Station, there are plenty of intercity trains to Wollongong running (generally) hourly through the day and more often in peak times. Some services will run direct to Wollongong City Railway Station, others may also stop at North Wollongong Railway Station, which is approx 1km from the venue. The cost from the airport by train is approximately $20, less for students and pensioners. Contact us if you plan to arrive by train and we may be able to assist in collecting you from the station. (3) Professional Airport-Transfer There are a number of excellent companies who can provide personalised Wollongong-Airport shuttle services. If you advise us in advance we will endeavour to book a pick-up for you which can take you directly to the venue or to the Campus-East accommodation facility, or to any other pre-specified location in Wollongong. The cost for this service is generally about $45 each way. We recommend Leisure Coast Limosuines (tho' its usually a mini-bus!) - Ph (02) 42-617-393 (4) Direct Flight to Wollongong Some regional centres (including Melbourne (grin)) now have direct flights into Wollongong's Illawarra Regional Airport located in Albion Park, a southern suburb of Wollongong. The airport is approximately 30 drive from the venue. Albion Park Railway Station is NOT immediately near the airport unfortunately. Please let us know if you intend flying directly into Wollongong and we will advise you as to the best transfer options. We may be able to send someone to collect you. |
