Human research ethics issues
Rod Nillsen was Chair of the University of Wollongong/Illawarra Area Health Service Human Research Ethics Committee from July 1st 2003 to June 30th 2005. As part of this responsibility, various talks were given within the University and the Health Service about the procedures put in place by the Australian Government for approval for research involving humans. You may read or download a copy of the talk given for the Illawarra Area Health Service in July 2004. This talk may be of general interest to those involved with ethics issues in research involving humans, and concerns the Helsinki Declaration on medical ethics, the National Statement in Australia governing the consideration of applications to conduct research involving humans, and specific concerns of Human Research Ethics Committees in Australia in applying the National Statement.
